Surgery day...

Hubby had his surgery this after noon to put pins in his finger. All is well and he's doing great...
IV is in and he's ready to roll

Blake wrote "yes" on the hand that needed surgery so they wouldn't do surgery on the wrong hand! (You can tell he's right handed...he had to write that with his left hand)

The pin they put in his finger was drilled in...So it sticks out of his finger. The surgeon also took his finger nail off to repair the bone and skin underneath and then stitched the nail back on. His finger will be kept in the brace and wrapped until we go for a follow up in a few weeks.

My wonderful in-laws came over tonight to keep us company. Tammy cooked an amazing dinner of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans complete with a whole plate of chocolate cookies!!!!

I remember the first time I ever tasted meatloaf was over at B's parent's house when I was 14 years old. All I had ever heard about the meat was that it was the famous "mystery meat" and everybody I knew always talked about how they didn't like it. I tried it for the first time and fell in love! It was so good! Its so easy to make and is a good change from the usual chicken or steak.

So thank you Tammy for making mine and B's fav meal!! We loved eating it in bed on our "giant TV tray."

**Side note...This "tv tray" table is actually a piece of furniture that is part of our bedroom decor. It is one of my favorite things in our room. When I was doing speech therapy, this is where all the paper work went down. I love eating on it and it makes using the computer quite luxurious! It has wheels on the bottom so you can slide it up to you at the head of the bed and slide it down to the foot of the bed. If you want one let me know. Blake had it made by a man in West TX.**

Labor Day weekend

Colt's first time to the Ranch!!
Our normal Labor Day weekend consists of everybody's first time out to the ranch complete with dove hunting, eating and boutique shopping in town. Blake had to be in a wedding Saturday so we drove straight to the ranch afterwards arriving a little after midnight Sunday morning. My dad reserves my mom and I the cutest little guest house in town that seriously looks like a themed room from the Zaza hotel. This is the only weekend my mom comes out so I love staying with her and getting to shop in town while the others hunt. On a normal hunting weekend, I will be staying at the ranch in mine and Blake's travel trailer about 15 minutes outside of town.

Sunday, the boys along with Tammy and Lanna dove hunted while Colt and I slept and mom went shopping. Colt debuted his "almost crawling" techniques for mom and I as I just snapped probably 100 pictures!

We all met later that night for our annual Labor Day cookout. This was probably the smallest cookout we've ever had. Who knows where everybody else was, but more food for us! Dove, steak, chicken, salad, potatos, jalapeno poppers, grilled onion, garlic bread and THREE yummy pies all for us!

Colt was introduced to Doodad's home away from home for the first time. Doodad took him around and showed him the lay of the land.

Colt enjoyed running around the house in his walker and around the garage

There is a lot of improvising done when you have a baby.

Exhibit A: His makeshift high chair...it worked!

The next morning, mom and I slept in and headed to Abilene to see a friend and then we headed home. We got super hungry as we were 45 miles away from her house and we had a super huge craving for the On the Border Khalua ice cream pie!! Thanks to the iPhone app "around me" we found the closest one to us to satisfy our craving!!

I hope everybody had a great Labor Day weekend!

Shopping in your closet:"labor day" maternity style

This week over at Meredith's "shopping in your closet" is all about maternity clothes. My uniform basically consisted of my maternity seven jeans from A Pea in the Pod, paired with a t-shirt, sweat shirt or forever 21 top I already had and off I went on my merry little way. If I needed a new little somethin' something', Arden B was my one stop shop. They had great tops that I wore throughout my pregnancy and can still wear to this day. Thats money well spent if you ask me :) I did ruin a few Lacoste shirts...oops. I thought they would shrink back down, but NOPE. Just a little advice for future preggers out there.

I also lived in these black pants and white long sleeve shirt from A Pea in the Pod. The pants made it through every church service, shower and wedding...as well as every nightly dinner on our cruise. The white top mixed and matched well with everything! Dressed up, down and even under a t-shirt. (I was preg in the Winter and I'm ALWAYS cold)

Last, but not least...(this picture is horrible by the way) and I'm completely shocked its the only one I could find of this outfit because I swear THIS was my favorite thing to wear for some reason...BUT its a black maternity t shirt from Target, gray wrap from Arden B, and the usual jeans.I never once wore flip flops to church and my 5 inch Louboutins were worn with said black pants to every shower, church service and special event... even at 39 weeks!

I reaaallly don't want to leave you with an elephantine picture of myself SO...Here is Colt's new trick...He seriously is a week away from crawling

Coming soon: Labor day post

Also, please remember Blake in your prayers tomorrow. We will be going in to have pins put in his finger. He's already tried to tell himself that it feels better and he doesn't need it. HA!

xoxo, Abby

Switching gears and two babies???

Normally this would be my regular "Wine-down Wednesday" post, but in honor of my BFF over at the Seattle Smith's, I'm going to switch gears and jump on her "Wishful Wednesday" bandwagon!

In the words of Kels', "Wishful Wednesday is supposed to be something to get us through those lovely hump days. It may be a wish, a hope, a dream, or an aspiration -- some topics may be fun and playful and others more insightful -- but most importantly, it will give us an opportunity to get to know our fellow bloggers a little bit better, and see what makes each of us tick...
The plan is for me to post an 'I wish ...' theme every Monday evening for you fabulous ladies to post on Wednesdays. I am a west coast girl and often blog in the evenings right before bed, so this will give you east coast girls time to get those juices flowing and be able to post sometime throughout the glorious hump day that we like to call Wednesday."

So if you don't follow her already you should! Just hop on over to her blog on Monday's to check out the theme and get your brains turning for the big Wishful Wednesday post.

The first Wishful Wednesday post theme is: 'I wish' .... I could go back in time and change one decision I made, and it would be ____!

For some reason, I CANNOT think of something I could go back in time and change! I really can't. I can honestly say, every decision...good and bad...have made me who I am today and without them I wouldn't be the same person. Boring answer I know. :(

***********************************************************************************
This may look like a happy hubby, but you would be quite wrong! Here is my precious hubs sitting in the ER waiting to hear the fate of his right "trigger" finger and his left thumb. He's only smiling because I said, "babe, its for the blog." An hour earlier: he and his dad were pulling a tree stump out of the ground with one end of a chain tied around the stump and the other end to the truck. At the WRONG time, Blake begins to adjust the chain while the truck began to heave foward trying to pull the stump out...therefore, trapping and crushing his finger and thumb between the chain and tree. I'm so glad it wasn't all of his fingers or his hand! I just so happened to be at the gym and seriously just put one foot on the elliptical when I got a phone call saying I needed to come get Colt because Blake had an accident and they were headed to the ER. I showed up at the ER too see Blake looking studly in his "working outside attire" which includes boots, t-shirt, and shorts. Love that man, he always keeps me on my toes. To make a long story short, it turns out Blake has crushed both his thumb and his finger the day before dove season starts including a giant laceration on his thumb which looks like a nasty scene from a horror movie if you ask me! What a bummer!!! They sent us to a hand surgeon (whom we saw today) to see if he needed surgery. The Doc confirmed his broken thumb, but it should heal with no surgery and he will take his stitches out in a few weeks. His finger is also broken and will need surgery to put pins in it to hold it in place while it heals. We go in on Tuesday for that fun stuff. As you can imagine, I've been VERY busy these past 2 days as a stay at home mom of a 7 month old as well as a stay at home nurse to a 26 year old. From dressing and cleaning wounds, administering medicine, making bottles, fixing lunches, giving baths (yes, plural), AND finding time to do the normal daily house cleaning duties...I'm worn out! Two babies is a lot :)
With all of that said, both of his fingers are wrapped and can't get wet, they need to be elevated and he's on antibiotics every 6 hours for 7 days to insure no infection gets into his thumb. Lots of pain has been had, but the meds have seemed to dull the pain. Let's all be thankful for our fingers!!! I'm just glad it didn't rip his fingers totally off!
And of course, B's first question to the Dr was "can I hunt?" The doc didn't seem to have a problem with it, but just said "as long as you can tolerate the pain." Blake liked that answer, but still doesn't know if he can do it just yet. If he does, I will definitely be taking a picture of his goofy gun hold.
I hope everybody has a happy 3 day weekend and stay safe!

Whats up Doc?

Mr. Colt had his 6 month check up a month late this time. So at 7 months old he weighs 19.5lbs(60th percentile) and is 26.5in long (40th percentile). He got three shots and did great. He's a tough little booger. He had gotten two shots before he knew what had happened and only shed one tear while shouting "mamamamamamamama".............. I grabbed the bottle, stuck it in his mouth and he forgot all about it. Then off we were back to to the house. He is now taking a nap and I'm having a movie day. First on the list, 17 again!

I'm a big boy now I'm SEVEN!

Colt is 7 months old and one day...TODAY! Holy moly...where did my baby go?! Almost crawling, sleeps 12 hours a night... sometimes 13 complete with 2 THREE hour naps everyday (unless we aren't home). He has one bottom tooth and the other fixing to pop through any second. He eats like a champ...loves to eat chicken noodle, turkey and sweet potatoes, apples, applesauce, mango, pears, peas, pasta vegetable med, hawaiian delight, carrots, squash, corn casserole, squash and corn. Does not like, but eats...bananas, peaches, macaroni, blueberry and apples, green beans etc... Super smiley, laughs all the time, walks everywhere in his walker, grew out of his johnny jumper, says mamamamamama ALL of the time, continues to put his hand on the light switch as I say, "light off," gets on all fours and rocks like he will crawl any second, loves music, if he is distracted while eating and won't open his mouth I can sing "yummy yummy yummy I got love in my tummy" and he will smile and open his mouth. Same with the "frog" song (I'll spare you and write the lyrics later). He loves to go outside, loves his bath, loves to swim. He seriously is a wonderful baby. I'm scared to have another one because people tell me "oh just wait, your next one will be ...." (blah blah blah). OR it could just be because I'm the shizzle of a mom...HA! I kid I kid.

He really is my little buddy and I love staying home with him getting to see his every move and milestone. He has a Dr. appointment tomorrow so I'll update you with his stats asap :)

I love that everybody has their own nickname for him. I call him "Colt-T bear" and "Bubber." Blake calls him "nums" or "bbbbbOY." Poppy calls him "big bear." Aunt Haley calls him "Colt-T" "bubbas" "bizza boy" (for big boy). Yaya calls him "bizza boy" "Colt-T" and "Punkin Brewster." Doodad calls him "his little buddy." If you call him something that I didn't mention, comment so I can document it :)

Colt spent his 7 month old birthday at the lake proudly running around the porch in his walker and spending the afternoon at the beach swimming. This weekend was our last official trip to the lake. It is just about dove season and we will be heading west for the weekends probably up until January when deer season ends.
Attention all legs and feet: take cover...here I come -Colt

Snuggled up tight with Gertie hiding from the sunMy favorite Kreck boys

For some reason my "mom" brain has not gone away and returned my old brain. I spent most of Friday morning packing up the fam for the last lake trip and doing laundry. Once we got to the lake, I sat on the porch and immediately remembered..."I FORGOT TO PACK ALL OF COLTS SWIMMING GEAR!! Seriously?!!! We've been here almost all summer. How in the world could I forget his swim shirt, swim trunks, swim diapers, sunscreen, hat AND floaty!!?? Well, I did. This explains why he is swimming in a onesie and Blake's fishing hat. It did the job, but I am still quite concerned about my brain :)

I hope everybody had a great weekend. This will be the last week until the club pool closes on the 1st. Anybody want to join Colt and I for a swim??
